Though the Super Freak pumpkin is attractive as an un-carved decoration, we think you should try carving several as well. Their freaky texture makes scary pumpkins scarier and goofy faces goofier! However, because the Super Freak pumpkins are hard-shelled, they pose a greater challenge in carving. Fortunately, there is a very easy way to overcome the challenge of the hard shells! Many pumpkin carving kits are available with tiny little “saw blade” pumpkin carving tools. These tools make decorating your Super Freaks a snap. Additionally, you should try to pierce the skin of your pumpkin on the top of a wart, versus on a smooth part of the surface. The warts seem to be much softer under the hard shell. Because of the hard shell and the firm flesh, you can scrape the inner surface of the pumpkin down until it is only three-quarters of an inch thick, thus allowing you to put greater detail into your designs. Once you have finished carving, there is an added advantage to the Super Freak pumpkin—because of the hard shell, it will last several days longer than a standard pumpkin before beginning to shrivel up. Even more time to enjoy getting Freaked Out!
